Second World War veteran known as ‘the Poppy Man’ made an MBE

George Kelly, 101, was honoured in recognition of more than 40 years of voluntary service to the Royal British Legion.



Second World War veteran George Kelly, 101, known as "the Poppy Man," was awarded an MBE by the King for over 40 years of voluntary service to the Royal British Legion and Royal Air Force veterans. Kelly, a former RAF navigator who participated in the Berlin Airlift and Suez Crisis, plans to continue selling poppies and educating children about their significance as he approaches his 102nd birthday.
