Sierra Leone's president fired the head of the immigration service after footage surfaced showing him receiving a gift from fugitive Dutch drug kingpin Johannes Leijdekkers. Leijdekkers was sentenced in absentia to 24 years in prison in the Netherlands for drug smuggling and other crimes. The firing occurred shortly after the introduction of an investment-for-citizenship scheme and amid discussions with the Netherlands regarding extradition, potentially in exchange for a Netherlands-based social commentator.
