Small firms to cut jobs amid cost woes and new worker rights, finds poll

A poll by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) shows that 33% of small firms plan to reduce their workforce due to rising labor costs and concerns over new employment rights. Nearly two-thirds of businesses surveyed will curb hiring amid the incoming Employment Rights Bill, with 32% planning to cut staff before the new measures take effect. Firms are particularly worried about changes to unfair dismissal and sick pay laws. Additionally, increased national insurance contributions and a minimum wage hike are adding to pressures. The government supports the new rights, emphasizing its pro-business and pro-worker agenda.
