Ronald James Edwards, a 75-year-old man from Sundre, pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the 1976 murder of 16-year-old Pauline Brazeau. Brazeau was stabbed and left to die near a rural road west of Calgary shortly after moving there with her infant daughter. DNA technology and genetic genealogy identified Edwards as the suspect in 2022, leading to his arrest. Edwards faced a reduced charge of manslaughter due to potential issues with evidence admissibility. He was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison, with credit for time served, leaving approximately 4.5 years remaining.
