The Alberta government has introduced the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP), designed to complement the existing Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program. ADAP aims to support individuals with disabilities seeking employment by providing financial assistance without penalizing them for working. Minister Jason Nixon emphasized that ADAP is a new benefit to empower individuals to pursue job opportunities while maintaining financial support. Cam Tait expressed enthusiasm about the program. However, concerns were raised that without proper safeguards, ADAP could face challenges. It is noted that the AISH program, relied upon by 77,000 Albertans, will remain unchanged, ensuring those currently on it are unaffected.
