Taking these two medications means you shouldn't eat grapefruit, NHS warns

The fruit and its juice could pose a health risk for two specific groups of people.

The NHS warns that people taking statins (for cholesterol) and sertraline (an antidepressant) should avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, as it can interfere with enzymes that break down these medications, increasing the risk of severe side effects. The British Liver Trust notes the effect of grapefruit can last over 24 hours. The FDA has a longer list of medications affected by grapefruit.
