Tax reform: N’Assembly engages caucus leaders as hearing begins

The Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives are initiating public hearings on tax reform bills, with the Senate set to begin on February 24-25. The Senate Committee on Finance, led by Senator Sani Musa, will invite the public and organizations to discuss four key tax bills. In the House, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas formed a special committee, including regional caucus leaders, to organize the hearings. The reforms have sparked mixed reactions: the Northern Youth Council supports them, while the Coalition of Northern Groups opposes them, citing potential harm to the north. Traditional rulers in some states have not been invited, raising concerns about inclusivity.
