The 2024 road casualty statistics for across South Lanarkshire are revealed

The year-end total was disclosed at a South Lanarkshire Council meeting.



South Lanarkshire's 2024 road casualties totaled 130, up from 124 in 2023 but below the 2014-2018 average. This exceeds the 2030 target. Serious child casualties decreased from 22 to 8. Overall casualties were similar to 2023 at 372. Fatal casualties increased by two, totaling nine. 30% of incidents occurred at night and collision data showed 50% of collisions happened in areas with a recorded speed limit of 30mph or less, while 50% occurred within speed limits of 50 mph or higher. The council aims to reduce casualties through partnerships and addressing driver error, road environment, and vulnerable road users.
