These states have seen the biggest crackdown on immigration since Trump returned to office

The Independent’s map shines a light on where the tens of thousands are being detained in ICE facilities across the U.S., reports Rhian Lubin and Alicja Hagopian

The U.S. has seen a significant increase in immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, with tens of thousands of people detained in facilities across the country, particularly in the South. Over half of those detained do not have criminal records. There has been a shift in detention locations from border states to other southern states, and ICE is expanding its capacity, aiming for 100,000 detention beds. Advocacy groups have raised concerns about poor conditions in detention facilities, including solitary confinement and lack of medical care. ICE claims to be reviewing detention centers to ensure proper treatment of detainees.
