Now in their 90s, two nuns refuse to give up on the fight for immigrant rights

Sisters JoAnn Persch, 90, and Pat Murphy, 95, have dedicated their lives to advocating for the dignity of all people

Two nuns in their 90s, Sister JoAnn Persch and Sister Pat Murphy, have dedicated over four decades to advocating for immigrant rights. Their unwavering commitment is fueled by their belief in human dignity. In 2022, they intensified their efforts when thousands of immigrants were relocated to Chicago, organizing a "day of prayer" and distributing "know your rights" materials. They've influenced state law, enabling religious workers access to detention facilities, inspired by Pope Francis' teachings on immigrants as our brothers.
