Third of households with single adult and children went into debt to meet ordinary living costs last year

CSO says 54 per cent found basic cost of housing to be a ‘heavy burden’

According to the CSO, almost a third of single-adult households with children went into debt to cover living costs last year, with over half struggling with housing costs. Deprivation rates for these households increased to 46.3%, a significantly higher rate than two-parent families. While overall deprivation fell to 15.7%, renters experienced increased difficulties with rent payments, utility bills, and general living costs. Fewer people reported struggling with heating, clothing, and social activities compared to the previous year.
