Thousands of protesters gathered in New York City on Presidents' Day to voice their opposition to Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Trump administration. The protesters were concerned about DOGE's access to sensitive data, potential financial power grabs, and the impact of layoffs and contract cuts. DOGE, established by an executive order, has fired nearly 10,000 federal workers and cut 104 contracts related to diversity and inclusion programs. Additionally, Musk's team gained access to the Treasury Department's digital payment system, raising security and legality concerns. The protesters marched from Union Square to Washington Square Park, highlighting their opposition to Musk's influence and the perceived undemocratic control over government functions.
