Threat to tariff or cutoff U.S. energy stays on the table as Ford heads to Washington

Doug Ford is set to fly in and out of the U.S. capital on Thursday for a meeting with President Donald Trump's commerce secretary which could calm or reignite trade tensions.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford's threat to tariff or cut off U.S. energy remains an option as he travels to Washington for a White House meeting. This follows Ontario's energy surcharge, Trump's retaliatory tariff threats, and subsequent lowering of tariffs after Lutnick invited Ford to meet. Ford paused the surcharge to facilitate the meeting, aiming to potentially remove economic sanctions on Canada.
