Tory councils refuse to sign Sadiq Khan's 'school inclusion charter'

The charter aims to ‘tackle the causes of all forms of exclusion’ in a bid to cut violence

Three London councils—Bromley, Harrow, and Hillingdon—have refused to sign Mayor Sadiq Khan's 'Inclusion Charter,' aimed at reducing school exclusions to tackle youth violence. The charter, supported by the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), encourages schools to minimize exclusions, as research suggests that exclusion increases the likelihood of young people engaging in crime. However, Conservative critics argue that the focus on reducing exclusions could lead to more violence in schools. While 29 out of 33 London councils have signed the charter, Bromley, Harrow, and Hillingdon have not provided reasons for their refusal. Bexley is in the final stages of signing.
