Town waiting 100 years for a connection has been told the wait is about to get longer

A local MP has told residents there could be a delay

Cheadle, a town that has waited over a century for its own train connection, has been informed that the wait may be extended due to delays in the opening of the new station. The project, which aims to restore rail services to the village for the first time in over 100 years, was initially expected to be completed by the end of 2025. However, challenges in the construction process have led to potential setbacks. The new station, which would link Cheadle to Stockport town centre and Manchester Piccadilly, has received £13.9 million in funding and is supported by local authorities, Northern Rail, and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). Local leaders and stakeholders are working to address the delays and ensure the station is delivered as soon as possible.
