Trump doubles tariffs on steel, aluminum after Ford’s surcharge on electricity

The decision is in response to Ontario's surcharge on electricity it exports to the U.S.



After a threat from President Trump to double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, Ontario suspended a surcharge on electricity exports to the U.S. Trump also demanded Canada drop duties on dairy and other tariffs, and threatened tariffs on the auto industry. He suggested annexation of Canada to end the trade disputes, while Canadian officials accused Trump of trying to weaken their economy.
