President Trump's administration is facilitating Southern Company's expansion of natural gas pipelines and construction of new plants by easing regulations. CEO Chris Womack highlighted the administration's support for energy development and technological advancement. Southern is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050, having already reduced emissions by 49% from 2007 levels in 2024. The expansion is driven by increased energy demand from AI, electrification, and new factories, which poses challenges to climate goals.
