UK government issues travel warning for Peru after country declares state of emergency

Updated travel advice for South American nation comes amid surge in violence

The UK government has issued a travel warning for Peru after the country declared a 30-day state of emergency in Lima and Callao due to a surge in violence. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advice, noting increased police and army presence with potential restrictions on constitutional rights. The FCDO also advises against all but essential travel to specific regions, including areas near the Colombia border and the Valley of the Apurímac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers.
