UK may be stripped of 'safe' status as 'serious public health' bug surges

The UK is at risk of losing its WHO "low incidence" status for tuberculosis (TB) due to an 11% increase in cases in 2023 and a further 13% increase in provisional data for 2024. The UKHSA reports that most cases are among people born outside the UK and that infectious diseases accounted for over 20% of NHS hospital bed usage in 2023/2024.
