The UN Security Council will meet in March 2025 to discuss extending the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), which expires on March 17. Roza Otunbayeva will present a report on the situation in Afghanistan. The Council is concerned about the humanitarian crisis, human rights violations, especially regarding women and girls, and the Taliban's alleged hindrance of aid delivery. Members are divided on how to engage with the Taliban, with some linking recognition and aid to adherence to international standards.
