Unemployment rate ticked up in January after reaching historic low in 2024

Mexico's unemployment rate rose to 2.7% in January 2025, up from 2.6% in December 2024, following a historic low in Q4 2024. The economically active population (EAP) increased by 452,000 people compared to January 2024. The informal employment rate was 54.2% in January 2025, up slightly from 54.1% in January 2024. The underemployment rate decreased to 6.9% in January 2025, from 7.1% in January 2024. The EAP employed in the informal sector grew by 0.1% year-over-year. Women's employment rate was 45%, while men's was 75%, with men's participation decreasing slightly while women's remained stable.
