School-aged child’s death is the first from measles in U.S. since 2015
An unvaccinated child has died of measles in Texas, marking the first measles-related death in the U.S. in recent years. The outbreak, centered in West Texas, has infected over 120 people, with only five vaccinated individuals. The majority of cases are concentrated in a close-knit, undervaccinated Mennonite community. The disease, highly contagious and capable of surviving in the air for up to two hours, has spread to other states.
