U.S. Appeals Court Blocks Joe Biden's Student Debt Forgiveness Plan

The Circuit Court of Appeals has blocked President Joe Biden's Student Loan Debt Forgiveness Plan, known as the SAVE Plan, which aimed to transfer student loan debt from borrowers to taxpayers. Seven Republican-led states filed a lawsuit, arguing that Biden lacked the authority to establish the plan and that it was an attempt to circumvent the Supreme Court's 2023 ruling that struck down a broader debt forgiveness initiative. The SAVE Plan, an income-driven repayment program, was estimated to cost $475 billion over ten years, with critics noting it effectively shifted debt to taxpayers.
