US votes against UN resolution demanding Russia withdraw its forces from Ukraine

Tensions have emerged between the US and Ukraine after Donald Trump suddenly opened negotiations with Russia in a bid to quickly resolve the conflict.

The UN General Assembly adopted two resolutions addressing the Ukraine conflict. The first, backed by Ukraine, demanded Russia's withdrawal and was supported by 93 countries, with the US voting against it. The second resolution, initially drafted by the US, was amended by France to clarify Russia's aggression and passed with the US abstaining. These resolutions highlight tensions between the US and Ukraine and strains in the transatlantic alliance under Trump, who sought a swift resolution and criticized Ukraine's leadership.
