Energy suppliers are trying to encourage those with radio teleswitch service (RTS) meters to replace them with more modern smart meters as a campaign is fronted by TV presenter Lorraine Kelly.
Hundreds of thousands of homes with old Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meters are warned to replace them before June 30th to avoid potential loss of electricity and hot water. These meters, common in homes with electric heating, no gas supply, or rural areas, rely on longwave radio signals that will be discontinued. Energy suppliers are urging customers to switch to modern smart meters, offered free of charge, amid concerns that some are hesitant due to smart meter anxieties.
