Warning over slushy drinks for children under 8 after 21 hospitalised

A number of youngsters have become unwell as a result of so-called glycerol intoxication syndrome



Researchers recommend children under eight avoid slushy ice drinks containing glycerol due to a risk of glycerol intoxication, following a review of 21 cases of illness in children after slushie consumption. The FSA advises against consumption for those under four and limits consumption for children aged five to ten. All children in the review recovered after ceasing slushie consumption.
