Watch live: David Lammy to announce new Russia sanctions on third anniversary of Ukraine invasion
David Lammy, the UK Foreign Secretary, is set to announce new sanctions against Russia on the third anniversary of the Ukraine invasion, February 24, 2024. The package includes 107 measures targeting funds supporting Russia's war efforts and its kleptocratic system. The sanctions will affect producers and suppliers of military goods from countries like Central Asian states, Turkey, Thailand, India, and China. Additionally, North Korean military officials involved in supporting Russia's war will be sanctioned. The UK will also target foreign financial institutions, such as OJSC Keremet Bank in Kyrgyzstan, to disrupt Russia's financial support. Specific Russian individuals and companies, including LLC Grant-Trade, are being targeted for funneling technology into Russia. The sanctions come ahead of Sir Keir Starmer's meeting with Donald Trump, where Trump criticized the UK and France for inaction. Sir Keir also discussed the situation with Emmanuel Macron, promising support for Ukraine. Notably, the UK has excluded Ukraine from peace talks, despite European calls for Zelensky's involvement.
