Whale stranded on Scots beach died with plastic and rope in stomach

Locals removed 433 feet of entangled rope from the whale as the battled to save it.

A 46-foot adult sperm whale died after becoming stranded on the Isle of Raasay, Scotland. The whale, first spotted in January, was severely entangled in rope and had been unable to feed for weeks, leading to severe emaciation, dehydration, and chronic malnutrition. Locals attempted to disentangle the whale, removing 433 feet of rope, but it died from exhaustion. The stomach contained 15 kg of marine debris, including rope, plastic, and mussel farm gear, with no prey remains. The entanglement was consistent with ropes from deep-water prawn creel gear.
