What are PIP disability payments, how are they changing and how will you be affected? All your questions answered as Labour slashes £5billion off the welfare budget

Labour plans a welfare system overhaul, including reforms to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for disabled people, aiming to save £5 billion. Changes involve revising PIP assessments and replacing the Work Capability Assessment for Universal Credit with a single assessment focused on the impact of disability on daily living, starting in 2028. PIP, a tax-free benefit, helps with the costs of living for those with long-term physical or mental health conditions affecting daily tasks or mobility. Claimants will need a minimum of four points to be scored on one of the 'daily living activities' used to assess Pip claims in order to receive the daily living element of the benefit from November 2026.
