What are the current smoking rules? As the UK marks No Smoking Day 2025

The annual awareness day aims to help people kick the habit

In the UK, the legal smoking age is 18. Smoking is banned in enclosed workplaces and public places since July 2007, including pubs, restaurants and nightclubs. The government's Tobacco and Vapes Bill aims to create a smoke-free generation by raising the legal smoking age and extending the ban to outdoor settings like playgrounds, schools, and hospitals. A proposed ban on smoking in pub gardens was considered but not included in the current Bill. The government aims to reduce smokers by 1.7 million by 2075 through these measures. No Smoking Day on March 12, 2025, encourages smokers to quit.
