The White Lotus, an HBO series, is driving a surge in tourism to Thailand as fans visit filming locations. After previous seasons in Hawaii and Sicily boosted tourism by 300%, Thailand is seeing a similar effect. The Tourism Authority of Thailand expects positive global exposure, with 5.5 million foreign tourists arriving by early 2024. Searches for filming locations like Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Koh Samui have risen by 65%, 45%, and 30% respectively, and bookings increased by 38%. The Thai government aims to reach 39-40 million tourists in 2025, up from 35 million in 2024, with airlines like Bangkok Airways adding flights to meet demand.
