Who controls Ireland's offshore wind? Spoiler: Not Irish companies

Big oil, governments and one of Europe’s largest polluters are among the developers of planned projects off our coast.



The majority of Ireland's planned offshore wind projects are controlled by foreign entities, including big oil, governments, and major polluters like RWE. Only two Irish companies, ESB and Saorgus Energy, hold minor stakes in some projects. While the Irish government aims for 5 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and views foreign investment as essential, concerns arise about potential greenwashing by fossil fuel companies involved in these renewable energy ventures.
