With Trump’s April 2 reciprocal tariffs looming, the big question is: What’s Canada’s number?

Country could be targeted for GST, dairy supply management and digital services tax

President Trump's administration plans to impose reciprocal tariffs starting April 2nd, assigning each country a specific tariff number based on perceived trade imbalances. These tariffs could be implemented quickly using emergency economic authority and may target non-tariff barriers, currency manipulation, unfair funding, and labor suppression. Sector-specific tariffs, like those on autos and lumber, may be delayed. Canada's dairy supply management system and restrictions on American banks operating in Canada could also be targets. The tariffs might be avoided if countries address trade practices deemed unfair by the US administration.
