Construction of a new toucan pedestrian crossing on the Cathedral side of the Salmon Weir Bridge in Galway is scheduled to begin around August. The crossing aims to encourage more pedestrians to use the newer "Droichead an Dóchais" pedestrian and cyclist bridge, which is currently used by over 13,000 people daily, compared to the older bridge's 3,000. A public consultation will precede the construction.
