World's largest iceberg which is twice the size of Greater London runs aground on remote British island

The 'megaberg' has run aground near the island of South Georgia.

The world's largest and oldest iceberg, A23a, twice the size of Greater London, has run aground near South Georgia, a British island. Originating from Antarctica's Filchner Ice Shelf in 1986, it began drifting in 2020. Scientists from the British Antarctic Survey are monitoring its impact, noting it may not break up as expected. While its grounding could release nutrients benefiting local wildlife like seals and penguins, it also poses hazards to fishing vessels.
