WWII soldier who 'died' in 1940 turns 105: Mother was told her son had perished in Dunkirk but she refused to believe the news

As Hitler's Panzers rolled across France towards Dunkirk in 1940, Alice Barber opened her local paper to read that her 20-year-old son Ron had been killed in action.



WWII soldier Ron Barber, presumed dead after going missing in Dunkirk in 1940, celebrated his 105th birthday. His mother refused to believe news of his death and two years later he was found in a Nazi PoW camp. He was captured after being injured near Dunkirk.
