$100,000 catch of a lifetime at northern Manitoba ice fishing derby

An Onion Lake, Sask., man made the catch of a lifetime at a Cross Lake, Man., fishing derby, hauling in a 100-centimetre northern pike to win $100,000 with 35 seconds to spare.

Theodore Muskego won $100,000 at the Cross Lake ice fishing derby by catching a 100-centimeter northern pike 35 seconds before the event ended. He traveled 16 hours from Onion Lake First Nation to compete. The dramatic catch, which secured the grand prize, was celebrated by onlookers. The community plans another derby later this month with a $25,000 prize.
