4% monthly rise in personal insolvencies in February in England and Wales

Debt relief orders have been taken out at record-high monthly levels since a £90 fee was scrapped in April 2024, the Insolvency Service said.

Personal insolvencies in England and Wales rose 4% in February compared to January, driven by debt relief orders (DROs) which reached record-high monthly levels since the removal of a £90 fee in April 2024. Company insolvencies also increased by 3% month-on-month. While DROs saw a significant increase, bankruptcies remained below pre-2020 levels, and individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs) were consistent with the previous year's average.
