A total lunar eclipse, also known as a "blood moon" for its red color, will be visible in California on the night of Thursday, March 13th, and early morning of Friday, March 14th, 2025. The eclipse will begin around 10 p.m. PST on Thursday, with totality occurring at 11:26 p.m. The maximum eclipse phase, where the moon appears most red, will occur at 11:59 p.m. and last approximately 30 minutes. The total eclipse phase lasts about 64 minutes, ending at 12:31 a.m. The "blood moon" effect is caused by the Earth's atmosphere refracting red light onto the moon. The eclipse is visible to the naked eye.
