AgriStability cap increasing to help industry offset Chinese tariffs: Ottawa

Estimated federal cost of the supports is $108.7 million in 2025-26

In response to Chinese tariffs on Canadian agricultural products like canola, peas, pork, and seafood, the Canadian government is increasing the AgriStability payment cap to $6 million for the 2025 program year and raising the compensation rate from 80% to 90%. The government is also offering provinces the option to issue higher interim payments to producers. This support aims to help the agriculture sector deal with the financial impact of these tariffs, which are retaliatory measures for Canadian tariffs on Chinese goods.
