Alan Titchmarsh reveals when you should first trim your grass in 2025

The 75-year-old broadcaster, who originally hails from Ilkley, urged gardening fans to wait a while before trimming their grass.

According to Alan Titchmarsh, people should wait until the end of April to trim their grass for the first time in 2025, later than the average date of March 18. He advises waiting for the soil temperature to rise and the grass roots to strengthen, as premature trimming can encourage weeds and hinder growth. The Woodland Trust recommends trimming only a small amount off the top, trimming later in the day when dry, and avoiding mowing when the ground is wet.
