Alberta school support workers to return to classrooms as massive strike winds down
Alberta school support workers are returning to classrooms as a months-long strike winds down. Tentative contracts have been reached with Parkland School Division and Calgary Board of Education, pending ratification. Deals have also been reached in Edmonton and Fort McMurray. Five of the nine striking local chapters have secured deals and are holding ratification votes. Roughly 1,000 workers from Calgary's Catholic school board and Foothills, Black Gold, and Sturgeon public school divisions are still on strike. Workers can expect back pay and raises. Workers in Fort McMurray are to return Wednesday, Edmonton staff Thursday, and Calgary public workers could return by Friday.
