Apprehensions along the southwestern border plummeted in January: CBP

The number of apprehensions alog the southwestern U.S. border plummeted by a third during January, according to statistics obtained by ABC News on Tuesday.



Apprehensions along the U.S. southwestern border dropped significantly in January, falling by a third from December 2024, from 96,048 to 61,465. This decline was more pronounced after President Trump's inauguration, with daily averages dropping from over 2,000 to 786. January 2025 saw an 85% reduction compared to January 2024, with 176,195 apprehensions recorded. Trump's executive orders declared a national emergency, enabling military support for border enforcement. Acting CBP Commissioner Pete Flores highlighted improved security and increased patrols, with apprehensions falling below 100,000 in November 2024.
