At the trial of two men accused of plotting to assassinate Iranian-American journalist and activist Masih Alinejad in New York City, the prosecutor stated the men were hired by the Iranian government to silence Alinejad, who has been critical of Iran's human rights record and treatment of women. The defense argued their clients were not guilty and that the evidence was circumstantial, with one attorney claiming his client scammed the Iranian government.
