The Government has announced plans to legally compel criminals to appear in the dock when they are sentenced.
Zara Aleena's aunt, Farah Naz, is advocating for legal changes to ensure murderers attend their sentencing hearings, following the refusal of Kyle Clifford, who murdered Louise, Hannah and Carol Hunt, and Jordan McSweeney, who murdered Zara Aleena, to appear in court. The proposed law change, expected in the Victims, Courts and Public Protection Bill, aims to compel offenders to face sentencing in person, reinforcing accountability and public confidence in the justice system.
