Berlin: Nur ein Bruchteil von Schülern besteht Probeunterricht fürs Gymnasium

In Berlin, new regulations for transitioning to Gymnasium require students with an average grade below 2.2 to pass a trial class. Previously, students with an average of 2.2 or below were recommended for Gymnasium, while those below 2.3 were recommended for other schools, with an option for a trial year at Gymnasium. In the first trial class, 1937 students participated, with only 2.6% passing, which the government views as successful. Critics argue the system emphasizes selection over support. Starting next year, only grades in core subjects from the last two years will be considered, reflecting a move towards a more objective selection process.
