Their last Facebook post, from Isfahan on January 3, praised Iran as a "wonderful place." The Iranian judiciary's Mizan news agency confirmed the charges, which carry penalties ranging from two years in jail to the death penalty, according to Amnesty International. Since 2010, Iran has detained at least 66 foreign nationals, often for politically motivated reasons, as noted by Human Rights Watch. Recent US sanctions have increased pressure on the UK and Europe to distance themselves from Iran. The UK government advises against travel to Iran due to the risk of detention, even for British nationals.
