Britons warned not to visit Iran ‘because it looks cool on Instagram’ as couple charged with espionage

Shadow home office minister issues warning after UK couple Craig and Lindsay Foreman detained in Iran and charged with espionage

Britons have been warned against traveling to Iran, particularly for Instagram-worthy trips, following the detention of UK couple Craig and Lindsay Foreman, who were charged with espionage. Shadow Home Office Minister Alicia Kearns issued the warning, emphasizing the high risks for British nationals, especially dual citizens. The couple, on a round-the-world motorcycle trip for a psychology research project, were arrested in Iran after crossing from Armenia. Iranian authorities allege they were collecting information, a claim Kearns dismissed as implausible, suggesting they may have been taken hostage for geopolitical leverage. Iran has a history of detaining foreign nationals, with 66 cases between 2010 and 2022. The UK government remains uncertain about the exact reasons behind their detention.
