Can bird flu kill your cat or spread to you? Experts issue advice after pet food recall

Feeding your cat raw pet food or milk could put its life at risk

A US pet food brand, Wild Coast Raw, recalled its frozen Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula due to potential bird flu (H5N1) contamination. Experts advise against feeding cats raw pet food or milk due to the risk of H5N1 and other pathogens like salmonella and listeria. While rare, cats can contract bird flu, but transmission to humans is unlikely. Veterinarians recommend conventional pet food as the safest option, as cooking and pasteurization neutralize H5N1. Human cases are primarily among farm workers exposed to infected animals.
