China learned from Trump's first trade war and prepared for subsequent tariffs by developing retaliatory measures, including tariffs, import curbs, export controls, sanctions, and regulatory reviews. Unlike in the past, China quickly responded to new tariffs from the U.S. with its own taxes and other actions.
